Up until recently my relationship with Facebook has been good. No let me rephase that its been great. Facebook helped me a great deal in getting me where I am today at little or no cost money wise. Its a fantastic tool for getting word out there and allowing clients to recommend through word of mouth.
Over the past year or so Facebook have changed the way they work and have stopped allowing buisness pages to reach as many people organically as they used too. They now want you to boost your posts and pay for people to see you.
I totally respect that they are a business too and cannot allow other businesses freebies forever. So with that in mind I am on the look out for a new base.
There are lots out there. Twitter, pinterest, Google +, linkedin to name but a few. Which way to go is the question. I have accounts with all of these but I find it very difficult to get my head around them.
Twitter: Great for business they say. Yes I say as long as I can keep up. How fast does that move? And maybe I talk too much but can someone really say all they need to in so few words? I regularly run out of space.
At the moment I have all my Facebook posts linked to twitter so they repeat each other. Is this the best way? Would it be better to swap them round and learn how to tweet properly once and for all? Maybe.
On the plus side its so much easier to find people to follow on Twitter. The hashtags group them all nicely in one place.
Pinterest: Is this just all about photos? I love this site for the inspiration but can I gain business from it? Im not so sure. Are there many people who look to pinterest to find a photographer? Again I'm not so sure.
Google+: Now this is a tricky one. G+ is supposed to be very similar to Facebook with pages and great for photos and sharing. The SEO qualities are 2nd to none. I have an account mainly for that purpose. Unfortunately again trying to get my head around the fact that you not only have followers but circles as well . That completely baffled me and I gave up trying to understand it.The next thing is how many people actually use G+? Again would you go onto that site to search for a photographer? Something to maybe research into though I suppose.
Finally Linkedin:I have an account but never ever used it.I get the odd email telling me that someone wants to link or someone has "endorsed" my work (whatever that means). Is it even worth me getting to know Linkedin? Would it benefit my business in anyway?
So in conclusion which way do I go? Where is everyone else? Which Social Media site will be the most beneficial?
Only one way to find out. Let the experimenting commence!!!! (Twitter first @lakelanephotos)
